Cert for link is bollocks.
They should but more subjective tests for that sort of stuff. Aftermarket ecu is redundant clause anyway since there is power clause (which is hard to prove) and soon to be emission clause.
Oh and how the hell they going to prove if you have chipped ECU? Somebody who wrote VIRM was reading too many ads for chips in the cars. They do not increase power that much anyway.
Take a stock car and put Link ecu, you will have hard time to squeeze power beyond standard level.
As for exhaust, if it exits behind the perimeter of passenger compartment it is not an exhaust leak.
With my car having 2 external wastegates (plumbed back into exhaust), 1x 3" straight through muffler (oval type) and 3" mandrel bent system. I do my wofs in a compliance centre, and I passed a few times (inspected by different inspectors, old and young), the car is very loud under full boost, but when it idling and normal operation it is relatively quiet (although substantially louder than stock). Although these guys do a lot of real race cars (that's where many overseas targa cars are getting NZ WOFs) and are used to diversity, and have nothing against modified cars.

I agreee that cert for LINK is crazy but the exhaust is a definate fail. The screamer pipe is part of the exhuast system and doesn't exit where it is required to, so this is the difference between what you have and a twin exhuast system that would have both pipes exiting at the rear of the vehicle.

Sergei - no emissions test, they gave that idea up for now.

He now acknowledges that the link and exhaust is o.k but still won't give me a warrant yet as he "has no more stickers" 8O

I remember evil_si was working on a 2JZGTE powered Altezza that had no wastegates on the external size. Instead, he installed a huge wastegate on the intake side between the plenum and the intercooler for controlling the boost.
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

totally acceptable reason for failing

dash panels can cover sharp/protruding things.

as Warwick just pointed out, that is a valid reason. Just failed myself because of the shroud missing around steering column.

Sounds like the wof guy was doin it job.

at first i thought he was being a prick, but yeah he's just doing his job and being reasonable about it although a bit pedantic.

It's for my own safety so i will remove all offending brackets, don't think i'll bother with the surround. and then try my luck again.

His running out of wof stickers seems a little odd though

Tell him to just issue the WOF online and not give you a sticker then go to another WOF issuer and ask for a WOF sitcker for your vehicle and they will charge you $7. You should not need to go to this hassle but if you need the WOF the same day then that is one solution. He will have new WOF labels the next day as they are an overnight delivery.
