Factory or Aftermarket?

Postby Luke28 » Wed Aug 29, 2007 7:31 pm

Just a quick question... Should i get my clutch replaced with a factory replacment from toyota.. or just an aftermarket one?? just want a normal clutch not heavy duty. 20v silvertop. im guessing toyota one will be more $ but not sure on quality of neither.

Cheers

theres not a lot of difference in quality in TGP and SOME aftermarket clutchs. but the TGP ones are cheap

You will find that most aftermarket clutches will shudder. Really annoying property when you are just getting stock replacement.
Get genuine toyota - it will be right stiffness, not too hard and not too soft, also it will not shudder, and probably last longer, and will not stink on hard uphills.

Only time I've ever come across that is when the clutch plate got bent.
1988 KE70 Wagon - Slowly rusting

if you have 2 flat surfaces i dont see how it would shudder, it would if you however replaced your clutch, nice new flat clutch an pressure plate but a uneven flywheel then yea

Shudder can be caused by the springs on the clutch plate being to stiff for street use

I had used luk clutch before with machined flywheel it was shuddering bad. Then replace with Excedy item same shit. Noticed same stuff in other vehicles. Also aftermarket clutches feel too soft.
I put stock back in (after blowing up the gearbox second time with 4puker) the genuine clutch just feels better.

I'm pritty sure that it only shudders when there has been an uneven use on the clutch (heating up on only one part of the clutch and not the other), just like a brake disc. (can't really stop it from happning) Warming up the cluch before you start to drive it hard could help it...
Well I have herd it from quite a few people around the race track. just drve the car a bit before you start to do quick starts.
At lest it's not a Honda
