Adjusting adjustables

Postby TRD_ZERO » Sat Sep 08, 2007 8:10 pm

I tried to get my front the same height as the rear but i cant, if i go that extra 1.5cm the spring isnt captured. If i tighten the nut at the top would it push the tophat down pushing the spring down and in turn letting me lower it that little extra 1.5cm? How tight must the nut be in the centre of the tophat?

Buy keeper springs, that center bolt needs to be tight at all times.

can you not adjust the strut length by unbolting the bottom bit off the hub and turning that?

Keeper springs what exactly are they? Do you have any examples, pics etc. Yeah the centre nut is tight but i can keep tightening it.

IM not sure i can have a look. DO you mean spin the bottom of the strut clockwise so that it goes up? Would it do that? If that is the case i might just leave it, that super strut is a pain in the arse all thes arms and bots. Good luck spinning it there with all that crap in tha way.

what brand coil overs are they?

some brands you can adjust the strut itself as well as the spring.

also check your not trying to go too low.

Keeper springs are small springs that hold your main ones captive when your springs are short.

It's basicly putting another spring ontop of the one you have, making it longer, with out effecting the spring rate.

look at those shocks on that forum, the blue bit that bolts to the hub spins up and down so you can keep the same spring tenion but change the height, not really sure aboutsuperstrut, but im guessing it should be the same kinda setup

ok, just a crazy idea im gonna put out there... but how about raising the rear to be level with the front? 1.5cm isnt that much of a sacrifice is it?
When in doubt, down and out.

If you set the height to the TRD recommended settings its fine, I have the track set of TRD adjustables in my AE111 also, and they are set to TRD specs and are captive and the car is level (but not super low). But I’m guessing (and hoping that you aren’t) one of those people who wants their car really low for no good reason (I think TRD might have worked out what a good ride height is). By winding them down I guess you will also be stressing your shocks more and affecting your handling as it will be altering the preload on the springs. The back springs have a very high preload from memory.

I can scan and email the trd install/spec sheet to you if you like?

No no i dont want my car too low to be exact the top of the rear gaurd is about 595mm and the front about 610mm its far from low. Ive also got an aftermarket fiberglass front lip and it would scrape everywhere if it went too low. Yeah i would appreciate that spec sheet please. I didnt have an issue with the height before i replaced the adjustable top hats with the factory ones, the factory ones pushed it up about 3cm.

Emailed specs this morning. Hope it helps. They are large HQ PDF files so hope you have broad band!

I have spec sheets for my TRD sway bars and strut brace too if you need them.

Cheers,

John
