Just remeber that for it to remain road legal you need to keep all bars no further forward then the back of the headrests.

What? Do you have proof?

Im sure you could just get an authority card to solve this. You would need one for harnesses anyway.

Not much point in having a cage without harnesses. Car might not deform as much but doesnt matter when your flying around in the cabin.

Considering the author, it's pretty safe to assume Nick (AE86) meant "to keep it road legal without an authority card" 8)

If you have cage (as compared to half cage), then you must have full harness' all the time, and you take the three point belts out of the car, and put them in the bin.

In my opinion the only reason you would get a half cage would be to have a road legal car that did not require harnesses/race seats/authourity card.

If any of your cage bars are further forward then the back of the rear most headrest you must remove you seatbelts and fit harnesses and get an authourity card.
If you are going to have a half cage that comes so far forward you need to get harnesses etc then you might as well get a full cage.

Yep well put, i was under the impression you needed an authority card for any roll protection type but im wrong.

Come on Caveman.
You know I run a half with just a cert, and no authority card.

I paid about $850 for my half.
Main hoop, back stays, one diagonal cross, horizontal above trans tunnel, side intrusions. Only thing I forgot was the harness bar (GRRR stupid forgetful me). Guys said that wouldn't really have changed the price much. Cage has homologation papers and everything.

So do you mean that you have side intrusion bars further forwards than the back rest of the seats? If so I wasn't aware that 'half cages' could incorporate side intrusion without being pretty much a full cage?

Got pics?

itd be a welded in half cage into a c33 laurel

being a laurel, anything would help as theyre pillarless..

you really would be wanting a full cage, as laurels are prone to alot of flex

You can run intrusion bars, the reasoning behind the "no bars past the head rest" rule is to stop you hitting you head on them.
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.

Yep. The bars rule is actually more like - No bars within 200mm of the area where the occupants head could reasonably be. Forward of the headrest is a convenient measure on how to determine that.
Be careful with side intrusions. They must lie below the "hip line" or be fully covered/shielded (ie by the side of bucket seats). Otherwise have a forgiving cert man. I almost failed my cert because the side intrusion bars lie just above the hipline. He let me off with rollcage padding.
