Recon'd motor

Postby Dell'Orto » Mon Oct 01, 2007 9:39 pm

How long can you leave a freshly rebuilt motor without oil in it? I was kinda hoping to have my car back by now, but it hasnt eventuated, and its not likely to be back for at least another week.
The bores obviously have a little oil coating them, and the bearings have a cubic assload of assembly lube on them - will it be sweet to leave it dry for another couple of weeks?

Yeah I built it, and as I said there is heaps of assembly lube on the bearings etc. I've had to rotate it a bit to degree the cam and set the tappets, but there still should be heaps on there.

Just wanting to know if it'll be fine for another couple of weeks.

IIRC that assembly lube shite will stay there until it is dissolved by engine oil, so it should be sweet.
