AE86 4agte?????

Postby Flange » Tue Oct 16, 2007 4:06 pm

Hey guys, i've got my 4agte to go in my ae86 here... and I'm having a few pondering moments about how I'm going to get the fuel into it

It has standard computer and 4agze injectors

I've got an extra injector controller lying around and was thinking of using this plus one of these: Apexi AFC

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =121676365

Will this allow for enough fuel and the mixture to be good enough to run safely?

Can't really afford any kind of aftermarket ecu atm but will be upgrading to next year

Any ideas oppinions or help will be much appreciated.

Cheers, Rob :D

this is just my opinion, but start saving up for the aftermarket ECU now and flag using a piggyback ECU like in the trademe link. Might be longer before its running, but at least it will run reliably.

just for piece of mind and saves messing around twice wiring and tuning the engine. A standalone ECU will do a much better job of running your engine. Most people seem to use LINK ECUs

So when you say standard you mean 4age computer not 4agze computer?

Problem with setups like this is the fact that you are just fooling the computer into putting more fuel in. In the end your ignition timing willbe out and most likely advance quite a bit. That means you have to run lower base timing than you normally would.

However I have seen some basic setups work quite well.

I brought an SAFC of a guy who was running a 4age turbo with these specs. 2Bar map sensor, 4agze injectors and 4agze bottom end, 4age computer, ignition, loom etc. Was running a td04 and 8-10psi.

The safc was like this.

<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a377/ants_ae92/safc.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>

And it went well. I still have this safc and it is for sale and I saved the Map he had in it.

Those older afc's only have like 5 load points. The one I have has 8 load points (1 every 1k rpm) and hi and lo throttle setting points and they do some working inbetween these points based on Throttle position etc. SAFC II's have 12 load points I think.

Yeah i know that a stand alone computer will do a much better job but I need the car going before The Christmas holiday period so I have a car to get to work in, to earn money to buy the link

Plus I don't really mind double the amount of work just keen to have my car back on the road :D

Yep standard ae86 4age computer!
Oh sweet that sounds like a good option, I'll give you a pm about that! Pretty keen.
So it'll be running safe fuel/air ratios with this setup?

How will I alter timing so that it runs sweet?

I'm only looking to run it real rough tune, pretty much just needs to drive well and I'll be happy for now.

The engine has:
Smallport head
gze block
td05
gze injectors

Screw running it in Diagnostics mode. It will just dump max fuel in.

As to the timing you probably won't be able to alter timing. You will just have to go conservative timing ie 0-5 Deg base.

The SAFC means at least you can change stuff at different RPM etc.

Use those injectors with a MAP sensor from a 4EFTE or a 3SGTE, when using a standard 4AGE computer.

The timing will need sorting with a ignition controller. It's not just about running safe air fuel ratios. It's the timing that'll kill your setup.
I'm going to use a MSD BTM for mine. Or just retard the timing to 0-5 degrees base as ants_ae92 has said. It'll run ok, but it'll be too retarded when off boost and you'll have to limit the max boost you use.

I'll be using a similar setup to what you're going for, except I'm using a stock bigport Redtop, no 4AGZE bottom end here. Interesting to see how it all goes.

Buy a cheap cam-fc, they are about $300ish, can alter your fuel every 500rpm and run an auxilary rpm switched out put. It won't be perfict, but it will be ok, and should get you around. And when your done you can still use it as a simple boost controler, or digi tacho or some thing.

My car runs one with the gze computer with bigger injectors. Very easy to adjust too.

0-5 degbase timing is just silly. 10-12 deg is fine for this type of application.
Easiest way to go is to run a map sensor form a turbo vehicle(doesnt have to be gt starlet but they are pretty common) and a set of injectors that have the same impedence as the factory 4age ones but are about 30% bigger(|once again doesnt have to be exact but the closer the better)

This is an awesome cheap turbo setup
