td04 turbo, to small.

Postby Zyros » Mon Oct 22, 2007 2:52 pm

Hey, my manifold bolts up to a td04 turbo, but the turbo i have is stupidly tiny.

What other turbo's could bolt straight on?
Or, how hard would i be to change to a t28 or what-not? Just change the flange off the manifold or exhaust housing?

i dont know what replacements there are, but you can just change your manifold flange to suit

mitsi tdo5's fit the mitsi tdo4 flange i think. oil lines and downpipe will be slightly different tho.

subbie tdo4s are the same as subbie tdo5's and IHI turbos.

subaru = 3 bolt triangle flange
mistibishi = square 4 bolt flange i think?

Easiest way to do it. cut the old one off and get your choice welded on..

It depends on how much power you want and what you'll use the car for.

A TD04 is small, but it'll spool very early, good for around town or whatever. It'll run out of puff up high though. A TDO5H will make buckets loads more power up high, but take longer to spool up.

A TD05H will fit as mentioned, provided it'll physically fit in the engine bay, depending on the manifold design. Just use the same Manufacturer as the one you have now, Subaru or Mitsi.

If its like a tdo4 on an evo3 shape gsr, then a tdo5 will bolt onto the manifold. you will need to port match the manifold to the tdo5 though.

But be aware that the evo4 onwards use reverse scroll turbo's.
