Glues - Metal to rubber

Postby MrOizo » Tue Nov 13, 2007 9:12 pm

What is out there that i can use to bond rubber and metal?

Is it a simple solution or something more complex?

the bits i need to fix together have come apart in parts or fully.

would a epoxy type one do the job?

Yeah definately a contact glue.
Epoxy goes to hard and will just release from the rubber.
You need a glue that drys like a rubber.
Sika Flex would work ok, ados f2 would work ok too, best I think might be Butyl glue, its a contact glue like ados but stronger. Butyl is the synthetic rubber used in roofing etc.

I use that all the time for glueing stuff to metal,
Urethane is what we call it,
I think sika flex is a brand of urethane.

I hve some ados but dont like it all that much. just seems to not hold... like when its in tension for a while it just peels apart. will go have a look for the Butyl and the Urethane Bond - price isnt really a factor as i'm not paying for it :P

Cheers.

As long as it is not greasy while you are glueing it.
