Non toyota help needed?

Postby TRD_ZERO » Sat Nov 17, 2007 5:12 pm

OK so i know this isnt a toyota but im just hoping some of you might be able to shed some light on this. Ive got a 1998 golf gti here and its having trouble starting. Ive checked for spark and it seems to be getting spark to all cylinders. crank it over a few time pumping the gas for a few minutes and eventually it starts and idles fine. Let it run for abit no problems. Try starting it the next day and same thing all over again, it just doesnt want to start. Im thinking it might be a fuel related issue but cant be sure. Anyone got any ideas?

A common fault with VW is the coil packs failing, from what you have described sounds more like an electrial fault than fuel related problem.

What do the plugs look like? What sort of condition is the battery in? If its voltage is dropping too low under cracking then you might find the ECU isn't firing the injectors or something like that.

Is it coughing like its trying to start when you are winding it over?

What cold start system has it got. If it uses a 5th injector for cold start it could be that
