SW20 question

Hi guys

Guy I know wants to hook his laptop up to his SW20 via the diagnostic port.. not too sure why, but he's all computers.. his questions are:

What data exactly does the diagnostic plug output?
Where can he source a plug for it?
What software does Toyota use for diagnostics?

Mostly for monitoring purposes he reckons, via his laptop.

Thoughts?
Daily driver: Toyota RunX/Toyota Caldina
Ex: 2x AE101, 5x KP60, KP61, EP71, 3x KE70, KE72, AE70, AE82, 2x TE71, AE90, AE92, ST170, plus 11 Hondas, 12 Nissans, 6 Fords, 4 Mazdas, 3 Mitsis, an Isuzu and a Lada!

SW20s are not OBD compliant, i had a snap on tool hooked up and all it would do is show you the codes, i don't think you can get any live data out of them.

All I know is the E1 and TE1 thing, IIRC you short those pins and it'll throw a code on the check engine light if there's something wrong. Woopie fruggin' doo toyota :evil:

It communicates data via a series of voltage pulses, it doesn't actually translate those pulses into data.

Kinda like morse code.

Tell him he's not as all computers as he thinks he is :P
