AE101 Levin GTZ Dash

Postby big-ben-007 » Thu Dec 06, 2007 12:11 pm

Over the past couple of months I have been having problems with my dash, basiclly it seems that speedo is tying to get a speed reading however it keeps dropping off, and its making a flicking kind of action and never holding a constant speed, thus not warentable, which is handy because it is due today

Thinking it was the dash itself I brought a second hand one off trade-me basiclly just to check if it was the dash itself with the problem, after a quick drive around the block it was apparant it's not the dash.

This keeping in mind I have checked for all the other connections it could possibly be.

So I am left with the possiblilty going through the loom and trying to find a half broken wire...............

So just before I embark on this wonderful mission of mine has anyone got any idea on what else this could be??

ant help would be greatly apreciated :D

could be that the speed sensor in the gearbox is tired/worn out, or not plugged in properly

check that before you start looking for broken wires

Yes I've found 80% of the time a problem like that will be a sensor or plug or something like that not often it's a broken wire.

Unless someones been doing any wiring or if the wires go across a hinge like a door or boot with constant flexing. But it's usually something easier.

A mate had that problem in his ST185, ended up being electronic speedo sender (the rest of the dash was fine). Got it replaced by Toyota ($$$$), but Warwick could give a better price.

there are 2 types, mechanical and elctronic. it easy to check which you have as it will either have a plug or a cable. i think ae101 are electronic?
i have a mechanical one sitting on my shelf if you need it.

Yep it is electronic, the plug is in perfectly, but I never really checked the condition of the plug itself before, so that will be something to do after my CBF Syndrome passes
