Towbar Installation

Postby BZG Wagon » Sun Dec 16, 2007 12:24 am

I have a '97 Caldina GTT.

How hard would it be to install a towbar? I have been told that they generally line up to some pre-drilled holes under the body and it simply gets bolted to the car.
Does anyone know if it is that straight forward?

Wiring up a loom shouldn't be a problem.

as long as the towbar is built for the car, then yes it will just bolt up

Some toyotas (and other makes) have a plug in the loom all set up to connect to trailer wiring. In our NZ new camry wagon this plug is in the left side of the spare wheel area behind the left rear wheel arch. Just plug the trailer wiring plug and loom you can buy from toyota in and then wire it into the trailer socket.

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

Cool - sounds easy enough.

By chance, would these look like the holes I'd bolt it up to:

Ken; I had a good look around but couldn't find the loom. I'll give Toyota a call tomorrow & find out if they know more about it otherwise its not a biggie for me to wire it off my lights.

wheres the towbar pic? the holes used by the towbar can possibly vary, so its not too easy to guess if it will bolt to those holes

being an import, there is a good chance you will need to drill some holes.

The place I went said they'd only charged me $45 for installation ($250 for the bar + $45 installation = $295 all up). So I figured I'd just get them to do it and not worry about the hassle.

Interestingly they didn't use those holes - they drilled two others near them which go all the way into the boot. there are 6 bolts in the boot which were all drilled.

Looked like there was a bit more to it than I was expected..

Just need to connect the loom Saturday morning & then that's it.
