C152 Issues

Postby KE25-KP30 » Sat Dec 29, 2007 5:33 pm

Hey just thought I'd throw this up here, perhaps someone can shed some light on the problem!

Better let it be known that the car's an EP71 Turbo S, with a C152.

Starting at the beginning, I was driving home from Auckland to Christchurch, and approx. 25km before Hamilton, I lost the clutch. I tried bleeding the hydro's on the side of the road, and after no luck, I (and my 11yr old brother!) learn't very quickly how to drive with no clutch! Got to Hamilton and tried a new master cylinder, still no luck, so the decision was made to drive on to chch with no clutch. After an 'enlightening' journey home, we made it. Anyway, I pulled the gearbox out and found a spring had come out of the clutch, and in turn, the clutch was jammed. I got a new clutch kit, and while the gearbox was out, I split it (about 15mm - as I didn't want to take off fifth gear etc) and re-sealed it (as it was leaking) and also pulled the rear cover and did the same. I put it all back together today, into the car and everything sorted and I CAN'T get it into first gear!! :x Now, I tried disconnecting the linkage and putting it in by hand, but still no good. This is with the engine both on and off.

Now. my questions, first, is it something to do with the long drive and no clutch that's stuffed it? (Although it did go into first before I took the gearbox out) or is it when I split it and something may have gone where it's not supposed to?
Second, is it worth me pulling it apart and fixing whatever's wrong? Are C152's hard to find? Or is it worth "upgrading" to a C52 out of a GT?

Anything anything would be appreciated as i'm a little lost as of the moment and would love some light on the situation!!

Cheers again,
Kent :)

sounds like you split the main case and didnt undo the alen key screw cap that houses a spring and steel ball that pops into the selector(cant think of proper names)
but if you split the housing with out removing the one in the bell housing the ball can drop into the space the selector slides in and stops it from moving all the way down....

find the alan key cap and remove it (its on top on bell housing should be two others on gearbox main housing aswell) should be a metal sleve a spring, and a steel ball... if the ball is missing or the springs jamed up in there that will be your issue
to fix... pull 5th gear an remove housing the long way

Replace the gearbox with a c52 outa a gt instead of bothering with the c152. C152s are real bad for shiting out diffs and snycros.

Ah AceSniper, that's what we suspected. I had to take that hex screw cap out to put it back together but didn't see any ball bearing in there :(
Ah well, so the go is pull it out, split it again, properly, and hopefully there'll be the ball bearing at the bottom of the 'selector rod'....?
Thanks for that.

Yeah dotdog, I had thought of that, but I just took it for a quick spin, and 2nd-5th syncro's seem usable still so I'll just get it working and switch to a C52 at a later date!

Thanks again for replies, at least I know what I'm looking for now!
