how close is too close?

Postby l1ttle_d3vil » Sun Jan 06, 2008 5:49 pm

i'm no turbo expert so would prefer to confirm from other people before making assumptions based on my own inexperience

is this turbo going to be too close to the strut tower, heat-wise? six inch ruler is just there for reference...
there isn't enough flex in the mounts for it to torque over and hit the tower, so only worried about heat.

cheers

thats the cold side of the turbo, doesnt get hot in comparison to the exhaust housing,
dont worry bout using a turbo beanie etc on that side of it..

on another note it may be to close depending how much your engine moves / twists.. how good are your engine mounts??

my exhaust side is closer than that to the back of my radiator.
had issues for a while with the radiator flexing back into under load but solved by cabletieing the radiator in place. no further issues.

doesn't get near to touching the tower, only the heat I was worried about. could always invest in some stiffer rubbers though as the ones i've got are pretty soft.

thats heaps of room compared to my inlet side though, it rubs the brake master cylinder occasionally...not much room for movement either side. damn small engine bays!!

arent you goin to run a link ECU? strip the cap and crapp off that dizzy and turn it into a cam/crnk angle sensor (remove a tooth from one of the wheels) and then you cld cut and reweld that turbo flange at a straighter angle. also a good place for tuning in TGA is Dynopower, good guys, good tuning, good price :D
