RWD 3S-GTE Bellhousing Q - Y series?

Postby KE25-KP30 » Mon Jan 07, 2008 12:10 pm

Hey all, hopefully very quick question - Did a search and couldn't seem to find anything...

I seem to have it in my mind that a Y series bellhousing will fit a 3S... Was this correct? (If not, I wonder where on earth I got that from!!)

Secondly, which of the bellhousings places the the slave and starter on the intake side? I know my C series doesn't, but (if it fits!!) my Y series does.

Thanks Again,
Kent :D

(Oh, for eases sake, if you can't be bothered, just a simple yes or no will suffice!!)

Y bellhousing puts starter on the intake side... can't remember about the clutch fork.
3 of the 4 holes line up perfectly - the 4th one on the bellhousing needs slotting about 10mm
I don't know what starter will line up with the 3s starter ring...

Trying to find pics for you that I took when I was putting gen3 3sge into my rwd carina.... found them - look here for a whole stack of bellhousing pics

S bellhousing - SX6x Mark II, Cressida etc. Also C bellhousing the same - CA60 Carina wagon, CM30? Liteace with G52 gearbox (same bolt pattern as W series gearbox).

Y bellhousing - YX70 Mark II wagon, YM30 Liteace with G52 gearbox (same bolt pattern as W series gearbox). Can be used on a S motor to put starter on other side of block if the top right hole is slotted See the hole in the top right is slightly lower than the S/C bellhousing.

I'm pretty sure that the Y starer motor wont do the job.

Hope all this helps...

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

That's stunning Ken, exactly what I was looking for!

Just for interest's sake, did you upright the 3S-GE when you did the swap?
Also, if you used the C/S bellhousing, did you have any issues with exhaust and slave interfering with each other??

Thanks again!

Mounted upright
- altered sump so bottom was level, i guess about 1L bigger capacity
- lengthened oil pickup to suit above
- remarked dipstick to suit (oil level is kept same distance below crank as when it was fwd setup)
- fitted accusump to reduce/avoid oil supply problems (search on here for accusump, also google)

Exhaust vs slave cylinder
- engine is N/A
- custom made extractors by actiondan
- made heatshield to keep heat off slave and clutch line
- cut off tip of bleed nipple to increase clearance

you could be suprised what starter will do the job, as i'm pretty sure the starter in my mates 3Y hilux is the same starter found on ST150's

all of those S series, G series, Y series blah blah blah all run the same ring gear, i'm even using one off a 1S on my 2JZ. The only variation is how much throwout is required which is flywheel dependant

Yeah - problem is that the offset of the Y starter motor is waay different to other toyota starters.
