Boost troubles sw20

Postby FXGTV » Tue Jan 22, 2008 3:13 pm

About 5 days ago my sw20 sounded like it was sucking in waaay more air when i hit boost - as the days went on the rushing air sound was accompanied by a decrease in overall boost performance.
Now boost hardly comes on, if only in small, shuddering bursts (almost how the turbo/engine behaves when the computer is in overboost engine saving mode, but that is usually a simple fix of turning the engine off and on again).

My first thought was vacume leak - but i have yet to have found one. Im not super knowledgable when it comes to cars - whats the best way to check for a leak? Where should I check? What else could this possibly be?

Thanks in advance

has the orange warning light some up on your dash?
Sounds like what mine did when I broke the knock sensor,
Ecu Pulled back the timing, put your foot down, get lots of intake noise but no power.

Hey, at least it sounds like a 3s.

might pay to pull off the intake and see if the compressor wheel is spinning freely too.
when i spun the bearings on my old turbo there was enough play the wheel would occasionaly stall against the side of the housing.

extra induction noise/hissing could have been a faulty wastegate actuator allowing too high a boost level and overspun the turbo.
are you using an aftermarket boost gauges and if so was it reading above normal levels?

Hahaha Skin, i may be keen for that  Give me a pm with the details.
I think ive located the problem - the massive hose going into the intake has a split in it. I'll replace it tomorrow and see if that fixes it.
