Wheels on an SW20

Postby Alex B » Tue Jan 29, 2008 9:20 pm

Anyone had a go at fitting 9" rears with p38 offset on an SW? or 8' fronts with a p32 offset? Found some i kinda like but dont want to be using spacers etc.

Cheers Alex.

18x9J at the rear with 38 offset IIRC, no problems at all

It's the fronts you're worried about, I gots 8.5J IIRC with 38 offset, rubbage without a spacer. 5mm spacer (which brings it to 33 offset), I JUST manage to scrape through.

So 8's with 32 offset shouldn't be to much of a problem then. If so ill find a friendly hammer to sort it it.

Cheers.

Okay i checked my old threads on the specs of my wheels (that's how neglected my car is, I don't even remember what wheels I have).

I had 18x8J front, with 38 offset, rubbage against the suspension.
5mm brings it out just sweet as.

so your 32 offset should be JUST right.

This is for my '93 so I don't know what it'll be like on your 91.

Sorry to steal your thread..

I have my hands on some 18x9 wedsports.. now the backs fit wickedly awesome, but the front hits the spring perch.....and i mean hits :P. Now the tyres are all 245/40/18s (off a GTR). Im not sure on offset, but it looks like it wont hit the strut anyway (im guessing a low 30 at least, ill measure tomorrow) . If i got say a 215/35 tyre on there, would i be able to fit it under? Or would adjustables make them fit? I love the wheels and really wanna use them.

EDIT: tyre calcs say theres nearly a 2" difference between a 215/35 and 245/40. If it clears the strut, is there any other problems running a 9" up front?

I had the same problem as you did, I had 225/40 DZ101's up front that came free with the rims, I had to change to 215/35 Sport MAXX.

$250 a pop tho. They stick to the road like biatches stick to Wildcard, so it's worth the money.

That looks like mine . I managed to get them on (when i let the tyre down ). The wheel is a good 1cm from the strut tho so woudnt need a spacer. Just need a smaller tyre haha.

Spring perch moves with the wheel, so as long as it doesn't foul while stationary it wont hit while moving. The problem (from what I see) will be the front guards. Even if you stretch narrower rubber on there, it will probably still rub on the outside edge going over bumps/cornering

Edit: you beat me :P

Spoiler might go back on  . Was thinking about it earlier...

Yeah the problem is the wheel rubs on the perch. I could set my koni's to hard and it prolly wouldnt hit the guards . But i dont mind getting the guards slightly cut seeing as it has to go get fixed anyway. Front tyres are bald and far too big anyway ( 245/40/18 ) so will get replaced anyway.

Your front offset looks whack dude. Sticks out too much, it's illegal too IIRC, unless you flare out the guard

It seems to be perfect, its just the wheel is a bit big  should really be 8"..

It will be getting flares and/or modded guards when it goes in to get the front fixed.

You mean your wheels are not staggered setup?

Last time I saw a MR2 with "RWD/4WD" all 4 wheels the same size, it looked mega rude, looks like someone smacked the rear wheels in with a big sledge hammer.

Gonna make the rears stick back out a bit?

Yeah they are allthe same size unfortunately. When i get the guards done/flares im gunna get a 10mm-ish spacer...i hate the front sticking out more than the back

Yeah, gotta get back onto that. Money is a bit tight right now

But those front wheels look like they'd fit under the widebody gaurds alright
