link base maps

Postby l1ttle_d3vil » Thu Feb 28, 2008 9:23 pm

is there anything physically different between a link g3 ecu setup for say an sr20det compared with one setup for a 4age?

or when you get an ecu from link setup "for a 4age" is it just the base map which they alter to suit the engine slightly better for pre-tune running? im looking at a g3 but not sure what the original map is for...does it make any difference or does the tuner just press reset and start again anyway?

cheers

most of the time, it will help start it.

bite the bullet and go get it tuned straight away.

the g3's you have to set it up for YOUR engine, put all the settings in, from there it will create a map that should be able to start your car

even link recommend you take it and get it tuned, afrs checked etc right away

I would be getting it tuned straight away, but just not sure if it creates more work for the tuner if he has to start with an ecu with an sr20 base map as opposed to starting off with a 4age base map...

you've confused me by saying "you have to set it up for your engine" then "link don't recommend getting it tuned"

hope this is making sense. its been a long day

thanks.

oops, meant they do, i'll edit that.

umm, if you have a g3. read the manual, you need to input all the appropriate feilds, put what wires are what for the aux outputs etc. put ignition settings in, injector settings. any other settings it says in the back of the manual.

from all that it will create a general map. it would most likely be easier to start from scratch with a g3, unless they have one for a 4age in their basemaps folder. they dont last i checked.

that is relative to a g3.

the older ones have a subboard or something that suits 4ages ignition stuff?

fine tuning is what takes the time. its not hard to get a tune roughly ok from nothing, if tuner knows what hes doing. but in saying that it still would be quicker to start with a 4age tune.
the triggers etc.. will need to be changed in pc link for 4age if is got a map for diffrent engine as IH8TEC says

are these the settings which are in the base map? or do they have to be put in regardless?

could I copy a 4age factory base map from someone elses g3 onto mine to duplicate all the factory settings, or can they not be copied easily?

yeh if you load a 4age map it will have all the trigger, ignition etc.. setups in that map. there maybe diffreces still depening on igntion setup and stuff, but the cas settings should be right

mint thats what I was hoping to hear  will help alot if i don't have to spend money sending it back to link to be reset.

how do you copy the base maps? i've checked in the pclink software and it doesn't have one (obviously!) - does the ecu have to be wired up etc then connected to the pc, then the map can be opened/saved like the other ones in pclink?

and as for the link igniters, are they required to run a standard dizzy/single coil setup? and will only specific channel igniters work?
