7mgte Over heating! Help please!

Postby sideways soarer » Wed Mar 12, 2008 2:53 pm

Hello all

my MA70 is heating up when idle. the gauge stays on half when driving but within a minute of being stoped it heats up to one bar below maxium (i shut it down before it got to max). if i start driving it goes back down to half. i checked for leaks aroung the radiator and water pump but couldnt see any. and the water and coolant levels are fine.

any else had this problem or any suggestions on what i could be

lol, thats probly what every 1 is thinking.

check the basics, see if the fan comes on at idle, check thermostat, check to see that the waterpump is functioning (have had instances were the propeller corodes and doesnt pump any water, or the prop falls off), and of course headgasket.

In that order, since thats cheapest to most expensive to fix. Check that the radiator cap is ok as well, but I'm thinking it probably is, since you say you're not losing any water.

First thermosat then TK test it / Leak down test

I have found best way to prove BHG is make a water tower using a 2.5 coke bottle with some tape around neck to seal into rad neck
Block off over flow pipe fill cut bottle about half way start from cold once all the air is out keep running if you see a constant stream of small bubbles or large burbs when you rev then BHG
