4agte head work

Postby tsoob » Tue Mar 11, 2008 10:50 pm

ive gotta pull my head off again, i cooked it and have either done a gasket or a crack not sure yet, my question is are there worthwhile mods to do while i have the head off, im going to do the valve stem seals as it is sucking oil down at the high rpm rev range, is it worth porting or getting better cams springs etc??
Thanks,
Nick

just be aware of the cost of fitting the oversize valves to a head,

there is more than just the cost of the valves.

use the TRD 3 layer steel one, they are very good and its one less thing to worry about. my engine had one and it run 20-22psi for extended periods of time pretty happily.

I still use the std 20V one in my current 440hp atw 7AGTE.

In fact, the engine builder recommended that over the TRD type.

I had a TRD metal one for the 1600 that I built, but looked at it and did not like it, so i did not use it and re-sold it.
I could not see what seals in between the 3 layers of metal,
and dont like steel gaskets anyway.

i think its rubbish the head and replace but dont know for sure dont want to waste money to get a definite "yeah its f'd" answer..

while on this topic are arp head studs worth the money?

i'd say re-useable as much as you need, as long as you give them a good look over each time, and mainly check the threads on the nut as well as the stud before you re-lube them, think they are lubed on the nuts.
