Or will i need to go through Toyota Parts Department?
Just so i dont buy one when i dont need it, how do i know if its out of order or close to it?

Whats the approx retail on these?

Your Australian made Corolla might not even have oxygen sensor at all.
Anyway you can buy the oxygen sensor from Toyota or just get one from Bosch, just make sure it is a right one, if it is 1 wire get 1 wire, although you could get a more expensive 4/3 wire one, but you will have to do something with heater, you could either leave it out or hook it up to switched 12v source, anyway with Bosch one you will have to muck around with wiring while Toyota one will be direct replacement.
Most likely your oxygen sensor is still alive (if you have one) otherwise you would be getting fuel economy a lot worse than you have now.

Best way to measure fuel economy is to:
Fill up, reset trip meter
drive reasonable amount of km (preferably till empty)
Fill up again, take note of kms on trip meter and litres of fuel you put in;
to calculate km/ltrs just divide amount of kms on your trip meter by the amount of litres you filled up . To calculate old school european ltrs/100kms divide ltrs by kms and multiply by hundred.
Use googe to convert to MPG (idiotic system)

try some throttle spray which will clean the carbon in the throttle

remove unnecessary stuff from your car, close all windows when you are doing more than 60, if you re doin below 60 and want some fresh air open the window half on the driver side and only open another window on the rear left hand side (if your car is right hand drive) so the air flow adjacently this will have better fuel economy too, reducing the air friction dragging your car back

replace spark plug replace or clean air filter, or lastly engine tune

If it does have an Oxy sensor, it's easy enough to check. You'll need a multimeter and a bit of know how though.

You need to find the signal wire. Easy to find which one it is do a google search or search on here. The other wires will be for the heater or signal earth (depending on the type of sensor)
It's even easier with a single wire type :D

When the car's idling the voltage output of the sensor should be varying. It will swing around 0.5VDC or so. It'll vary due to the car being in closed loop mode.

You can pull the sensor out and give it a clean. Do a search for that as well, it's been covered before. Just be careful when handling it, they're a little senstive to knocks.

Oh and that throttle body clenaer is good sutff too. Used it on my BZ-G and made it run a bit smoother. You can get it from REPCO or similar stores.
