4A-GZE Series II ???

Postby stalker » Fri Apr 11, 2008 7:34 pm

Please dont flame me for the nub Q....
(I tried to search it with no luck answering this)

The series 2, is that the blue top or red top? (im thinking red top?)

Im ganna try and build my own 4agTe engine for my car and from all the research ive done the series 2 is the best block to start with. (feel free to correct me if im wrong on that)
And yes, this will be an interesting build, as I know car stuff, just not mechanical stuff  so hoping I will learn as I go.\

Cheers

k ur got
1 -blue/blacktop i think(6bolt flywheel) bigport 40mm cranks 4age(rare as)
-bluetop bigport 40mm crank 4age ae82/86
2 redtop bigport 42mm crank 4age/ze strongest rods ae92
3 redtop smallport 42mm crank 4age/ze strongest rods ae92(some run late model rods from ae101)
4 silvertop/ smallport ze 42mm crank strong rods ae101
5 blacktop 42mm crank ae111 weakess rods

ae92 good for very high boost(i dont know)
ae101 good til 25ish
what head u going to run? if ur running smallport u will need to run external oil drain block

Wicked, thanx heaps....but now im even more confussed!

Basically of all the researching I have done, this was prob one of the better sites that I came across: http://www.mr2supercharger.com/4AGTE.html (lots of reading)
So I was going to follow this guys wisdom....and start by buying the correct block that he mentiond: We start with the block and really the only one you should use is the 4A-GZE Series II with built in oil squirters and the extra ribbing
Hence why I asked which the series 2 is

you know..... i STILL have not ever seen any evidence anywhere of a 6 bolt 4age flywheel.
not in any parts catalouge
not in any manual
not anywhere.....

re point number 3, at some point after the smallport change, all 4age/zes ran went to the thinner rod as found in all ae101 variants.

smallport head ftw!

AW11 mr2s also received the 42mm crank and chunky rod gze engine.

i know someone that has one for sale atm actually stalker - send me a PM if you are interested.

the early ones had lower static compression than the later ones though.

i think you'll find alot of the guys making round the 200kw mark on here are using the AE101 (smallport) generation engines.

the 4agze and last of the aw11s got the 42mm cranks... they swapped over in 87 when the big crank change happened....

just ruff guide boys come on.

hes going on about late ae92/ae101 ze block

depends what ur aiming at? street, track, drag? boost? budget?

im going to run smallport head as there better i belive,
dont belive everything u read on the link as some is rubbish,
eg. cant run copper fuel lines, they will crack!
small ports makes torque(so are they better?)
20v flow beter than bigports

Ahhh I see, thank you!! :D

Im planning on turning the car into a show/drag/and weekend car. Im not planning on having a fast 8sec pro drag car, but id love to just go out there and take it down the stip and have fun with it really. Id say the main part will be to have a nice show quality AE, whilst not turning it into a trailor hoe.

Boost = id be happy with 15psi
Total power id like to have = 200rwkw (hopefully im not dreaming)
Budget = havent really set one as yet, just cause looking at what everyone else has spent on their 4agTe's im a tad worried lol. but it could be a slow build as im learning as I go, so it will be a case of find money as I need it. (Ie. I took everyones advice and threw the budget out the window)

So the best block to start with would be the ae92/101 ze?? (red/red & black top)

thats what i would go with if i was building a turbo 4A - smallport block n head for oil squirters and drain, late model GZE pistons.

the big crank / rods sound nice on paper but are they really needed? i havent heard of anyone throwing a leg out of bed @ ~ 200kw on the smaller versions.

k, with those plans,
i would just buy map sensored 4agze late ae92/ae101 running standard ecu or if budget let u with a link,
spend the money on the turbo set up, run smallport n/a intake
if or when it goes bang rebuild it then, save u lot of time, and money.

Ahh cool, ya read my mind.
I was thinking that with my limited knowledge of mechanics I was just going to buy a complete 4agze and then do the nessacery to make it turbo.
Im lucky as my car already has a link in it, so thats one less thing to think/worry about budget wise.

Of course, once I have my engine and everything else, I will prob have to start a new thread on what to do next....
