Electrical problem in my starlet

Postby gt-ep82 » Sun Apr 20, 2008 9:27 pm

hi, ive searched this forum back to front for days now but havn't found an answer to my problem.

Recently my alternator gave up the ghost at the same time all my electrics stopped (windows, rev counter, temp gauge, petrol gauge) also the motor runs real sluggish. I replaced the alternator and gave the battery a full charge, turnt the key on but still no electrics, no dash lights. I can turn the motor over, and i've tested the battery with a multi-meter, turnt off getting 12.0v, when car is running im getting 12.4v. Ive checked fuses in the car and in the engine bay. I was told that maybe the alternator light on the dash might be blown causing the alternator to not work??? As i'm getting no dash lights before start up, i'm not sure if it's the alternator again maybe something in the circuit??

I have a EP82 starlet with a 4efte motor.

Help would be appreciated. thanks 8)

You should be getting near 14v when chargin. 12.4 tells me something isn't right with the charge circuit or the alternator.

how much voltage is on the big heavy wire to the B+ terminal on the alternator with the car switched off.

12. something is ok,

0V is a blown main fuse 80/100A.

If that is the case then check the under dash fuses,

look for one labelled IGN or EFI or Gauge,
but just check them all.
