What the ???????????

Postby lakespeed » Mon May 19, 2008 11:40 am

Hey guys I'm a newbie on here and am having a problem with my 1800 carib!

My battery seems to be completely flat in the mornings when trying to start it to go to work but when jump started starts easily and is easy to start all day until the morning. I'm leaving nothing on during the night and sometimes the battery even starts dome mornings without no hassles.

What the hell could be the problem have checked the earth and main electrics but am still puzzled by this.

Any ideas people?

thanx in advance. :) :D :?

Battery is probably due for replacement. Nothing like a bit of colder weather to make them die :(

yeah what he said. first frost of the year kills thousands of batteries. get your battery test, it'll come back as a dud.

Running it around with alternator charge isnt enough. You need to give it a good charge over night with a proper battery charger. Give it a good charge then take it in to get it tested.

also........ The digital clock on the dashboard in AE100 and AE110 series corolla do give a problem where they become a slow drain on the battery.

My car used to start fine but now its cold would barely turn over so I replaced the battery and is fine now. Was time for a new battery anyway.

Sorry guys should have mention that I've brought a new battery and It still does the same thing. Weird I know and I've also checked the wiring for the stereo as I thought it might be shorting the car somewhere but nope so ????????????

Thanx for the feedback so far!! :?

if you have a multimeter you can check if its drawing current when its switched off. if you dont, take it to a sparky.

could just be rangi and disconnect the positive battery terminal and just touch the positive lead onto the positive battery terminal to see if it sparks. At least I think thats correct, spark means theres something drawing power, none means no draw. i did say rangi tho

gHeTTo aZ aU..

Just buy a multi meter and test it that way. And if still no answer then disconnect the battery over night.
This should solve the problem in the morning and provide you with a "mean" immobilizer.

Thanks again guys for your replies. Have pulled the digital clock out and the car seems to be starting easily in the morning so hopefully that was the problem. Checked everything with the multimeter and everything seemed to be fine so fingers crossed.

p.s who would have thought that a crap $2 digital clock would be the problem hehehehe
