Not a toyota but...

Sister's boyfriends car is behaving badly.

Its 1995 Mitsubishi Mirage Asti(sp?)

Carby, not sure on capacity, probably 1600.

Anyway, it seems to start sweet after its been sitting for a bit, revs fine, until it cuts out.
Then when restarting it ignites then dies straight away, and trying again it won't ignite.

Therefore the battery seems sweet, the starter seems sweet, I assume it has spark as it does ignite sometimes.
What I'm guess the problem is, is the fuel sender can't be working.

I'm thinking that when the car is sitting the fuel gets into the lines and float in the carb, however when the car is started it uses this fuel until it stalls, cos there is no fuel coming from the sender.

The tank is a 1/4 full.

find out if it has spark or fuel and you'll have your answer, im guessing the ignition module is poked and when it warms up it stops working, i could be wrong tho you need to find out whether its spark or fuel 1st off

My mate had a similar problem in his honda, turned out to be a dodgy ignition barrel.
