seriously looking at putting this motor in my ae86

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 348582.htm

Just have a few questions though.

will it fit in the engine bay ( car is currently running na s/t)
Will a t50 be able to handle the power.
is it good value for money.

That's a pretty serious motor. I'd say you'd want a good clutch and gearbox combo backing it up. It's a damn good deal too, when you look at the work that's been done on it. Manon Butler Motors do good work. Look at Barry's (BAZDA) own car to appreciate that. Also, Brendon's (IH8TEC) was built there too.

It would still need some cash put into getting it going at full potential. Computer alone will set you back a bit. Having said that, you'd be hard pressed to build that motor from scratch for less than what he wants for it.

Im building the same thing atm for my AE. (even using one of bazda's sexy sexy turbos)

From all the test fittings (Ie. holding everything in the engine bay) all looks like its going to fit.

Personally im going to be running a W5* as it will be stronger and last a lot longer than what the T50 would. From the research ive done, people have used T50's..but they all told me that they kept breaking them and having to replace them all the time, and everyone told me to use the W5*'s boxes as they were stronger, and saves hassles in the long run.

Guess it will be like everything else though...It will depend on what you want from the car and the engine.
How much power are you wanting to get, and what will you be doing with it?? (racing/dragin/weekend driver with a bling turbo sitting in the engine bay) lol

luckely i already got a computer to run it all, yea i thought the t50 would be a bit weak and my s/t clutch would last about 5 minute. got a trd diff so hopefully that would be strong enough. dont really want crazy power as the car is pretty light, 180kw atw will do me.

If ya only really after 180ish, then a t50 might be ok. (and it is lighter then the W boxes) so if weight is a factor for ya then maybe stick with t50??
Hopefully someone on here will be able to tell ya if they can handle the 180 mark

If you only want 180 at the wheels, don't bother with this motor. It's capable of so much more. Just go for a stock 4AGZE and chuck your computer on it and turbo away. Use a TDO5H or similar.

it really depends on how you plan to drive it.

i met a guy with a lotus 7 replica and a turbo 4age making around 180kw, he was using a t50 and an S series (thats ae85 styles) diff with a T series centre welded into it (dodgy as) to accept an AE86 diff.

he said he'd never had any driveline issues with it, but it was purely a grip car - ie limited harsh jolts etc from clutch kicks or whatever.

so i guess if you want to do a few skids, W series box plus hilux diff will give you peace of mind. but if you are willing to treat it with a bit of respect, maybe 86 stuff will hold up?

one way to find out.

ps - T series diffs tend to break C & P wheels and axles, so TRD centre wont do much for its longevity as you might think - though it wont hurt.

Lotus 7 replica weighs probably as much as that engine, so less stress on weak driveline components too.
Wouldnt bother with a T50 behind any 4AGTE in a normal car, it'll die reasonably quickly if you give it any sort of stick (why would you build a 4AGTE if you werent gonna do skids????)

this motor should be able to make 250 wheels without any problems, would be way more fun than 180 wheels tho........
