Getting the tacho to work with a Link in AE86

Has anyone who is running a Link with Mitsi Coils and Igniter had problems getting their Tacho to run? I have tried using the igniter and the Link for a signal but nothing seems to work!

Does the 86 tacho take a feed off the -ve of the coil or from the ignitor?
(in standard form)

If it takes the signal off the coil then there is a circuit you can make to convert the signal off the mitsi coils

i couldnt get my tacho to work with the link G3, the link didnt put out a strong enough signal it seems. I ended up just using the stock signal from the stock ignitor.

as for a signal off the mitsi coils get one of those tacho interface thingys. i got one i could sell but i cant find it.

select tacho and use a 30% duty cycle on it. should do the trick

the early model links had this rubbish low level tacho interface thingee which provides a sh it signal to the tacho.. mine is all over the show at high rpm...
running an autometer tacho and link plus ecu with 3 channel ignitor and triple coil, waste spark.. i had toyota coils originally and ave changed to mitsi coils...

i just ignore the tach now and change gears when it runs out of puff i was disappointed with it for a start and tried a few different tacho's all with the same result from both the ecu tach signal and the one from the ignitor pack....

with the early link's, Pre G3, you need to run signals from the coil -ve,
and if you run multi coil, you need to run a tach adapter/interface,
either a mitsi one or as as per the pic in the diagram above.

Managed to the Tacho working in the end after finding a link and instructions on Toymods. I had to change 2 resistors and a capacitor in the tacho circuit board. Sounds tricky but the parts cost about 80 cents and it wasnt too hard to find somebody who was handy with circuit boards.

Off to get the Link tuned on the dyno tomorrow so should have a chance to check its accuracy.
