SAFC-2 or Gizzmo Air/Fuel controller on Blacktop 20V?

These both seem to do the same job or near enough to it.
I was wondering which one would be better on a Blacktop 4AGE? I'm only planning to change the exhaust and do a different intake. I have seen a few people get good results from the SAFC2, but haven't heard about the Gizzmo item The Gizzmo one seems to be a bit cheaper than the SAFC2. ROBDISCO_20V got good gains with his blacktop and SAFC2, anyone else use one?

I don't have any experience with either of these but there are alot of people using SAFC on cars of all level of performance (even on cars with piggyback or replacement ecu's) so that must be saying something about them.

I've heard the same about the SAFC's. I see them on heaps of cars, but wonder if some of them are just for the Bling value.

I know they are popular with the honda buys and make good gains on mildly modified VTEC engines.

Blacktops also gain by installing and tuning one of them, but found that Gizzmo thing, which seems as if it'd do othe same sort of job. It's less of a Bling Bling box too :D

I think it's more a bling thing, if you have an aftermarket ecu and have/need one of those it isn't tuned right.

On a factory ECU, I've heard piggybacks can advance ignition timing to dangerous degrees, that's just in general though, not specific to those.

Haven't had any personal experience with them

I've heard of the timing issues as well, but I think the problem is more when people put bigger injectors in and then pull fuel out of it with the SAFC. I think with an essentially stock Blacktop (with exhaust and intake), the SAFC will help quite a bit. I'll bbe using the stock ECU for it, so would be good to have a small degree of adjustment.

My brother in laws ep82 gt starlet, with td04, bigger injectors, fuel reg and exhaust, uses a safc and has been making 160kw for about a year now on standard internals.

So +1 for SAFC :D

Shot. I'm looking at a black face SAFC-2 on Trademe right now. So, it has less Bling factor than the blue face jobbies. Winner!

I had a SAFCII on my black top. They're defiantly more than just bling value. Had it dyno tuned & you wouldn't know it was the same car. It had a lot more power down low & gained 6kw over all at the wheels. Definitely a worthy mod.

Never heard of the timing issue. It only adjusts air flow/fuel not timing so yeah...urban myth?

Sam (NILPSI) said the same thing to me, that he noticed a good change with his BZ-G.
If i decide to cancel my warrenty i'll invest in a AFC-Neo for the Corolla.

Sweet, but from memory your car had aftermarket cams though. Maybe it was helping to adjust for the different cams. Who knows. It does adjust timing, becasue it tricks the computer to thinking it's somewhere else on the load (MAP sensor voltage), so really does both fuel and timing to a degree. That's from what I've read on how they work.

Did you have any other mods on your car ROBODISCO_20V? Exhaust, intake etc??? Did you ever try aftermarket trumpets? If so, how long were they and did you get before and after dyno readings?
