Tapping into plastic end tanks?

Postby snwtoy » Sun Aug 03, 2008 3:24 pm

I need to get a pressure feed for my wastegate - there is nothing on the turbo to use, so my next option was to tap into the end tank of the standard top mount intercooler, which is plastic.

My only other options are:
tap into the bov feed which is rubber
remove turbo and have someone put a proper? tap into the housing

Any suggestions on doing the tap into the end tank? Sure I can drill a hole to the correct size, and wind a brass fitting in, but is there anything else I should consider before doing that?

I'd stay away from winding the fitting into the plastic, you run the risk of cracking. How about tapping into the intercooler piping somewhere?

Is there nothing on the manifold you can tee off? Some manifolds have random blanked off pipes.

There is, but it's a really awkward bend that one, I don't know if I can spare the 1-2cm to fit a fitting in there, and I don't have the tools to do it myself :(

Doesn't it need to be before the TB? Nothing before that...

Doing anything to the intercooler sounds like a bad plan IMO. I can find a nipple to put onto the turbo if you want.

Yeah I'm thinking that's got to be the best way. Reckon you could do it without takng the turbo off? :D

Kinda - we would remove the compressor housing to avoid getting small bits of metal in the turbo, cos you don't want that. Also makes it really easy to drill/tap/weld etc
