2tb twin side drafts

Postby Josh » Tue Jul 29, 2008 5:09 pm

Wanting to get a set of side drafts for my 2tb, I know that the inlet ports are 35mm in diameter, where would i find a set of 35 sideys and a mani to suit. Dont want to go 40's I was told they would be too big? Cheers

Getting 35mm carbs would be the mission, especially new ones. Then once you get them getting a manifold to suit 35mm carbs would be fun unless you got some that are the usual dcoe/dhla side draft pattern.

Seriously 40mm carbs will be ok for the majority of road cars up to 1600cc & I'd say probably go to 45mm for up to 2L. It'll come down to the choke sizes/jetting really. We run 45 or 48mm carbs on some race engines that are 1300cc or less.

I'd say go for 40mm carbs & try & pick up some weber if you can though be careful buying s/hand as sometimes it can cost more by the time you reco thwm than new ones. A new pair of weber 40mm dcom is around the $1000 mark from memory, may still be able to get dcoe's without the emission control as well to give you idea.

As for a manifold there is usally factory/aftermarket manifolds for sale either here or on TM. Else HiTech Motorsport in Drury (09)294-6001 manufactures new cast aluminium side draft manifolds to suit for around $200

Oh ok sweet, but what about matching the port size, would I have to get the ports enlarged to 40mm, or would it be sweet with the standard 35mm ports

From memory the port size on those manifolds is around 32-35mm been a long time since I played with one, think it's just under 35mm which give you a little bit of material to play with to port match it to the head.

As for choke sizes, hard to know as I don't know the rest of the engine spec & how hard you'll drive it etc. But I could probably say you'd need 36mm chokes maybe or possible 38mm but until you tune it it's hard to say. I've even seen 32mm chokes used before on a 1600 with twin 40mm weber's it hard to say.

I happen to have a set of 40 Webers on a 2TG manifold in the shed if you're looking.

I'm sure I originally read it & it said 2tg not 2tb but who knows after the week I've had. As for 2tg & 2tb being different bolt patterns, sure I've been there before & sussed it out but have forgotten as it's not really an engine I play with.

redline manifolds in australia sell a 2tB manifold to suit side draft 40 and 45 carbs

I ran a sidedraft 45 , in single coinfig on my ex race motor 2tb , with their products and was a very happy fellow :)

stuff aint cheap , but the workmanship is very very good

I had 45mm Webers on my 2TG, with 34mm chokes from memory and it went good. I found with the smaller choke size it gave it good response at lower revs which suited rallying, especially as the 2TG wasnt really a high reving engine compared to the 4age.

From reading your post Im not sure if you realise most inlet manifolds taper down from the carb to the inlet port....
