stupid 3k wont start

Postby crshbndct » Sat Aug 09, 2008 4:47 pm

its in a ke35, and i really need to get it running today. (its got a fullt tank, and i am broke, and all my other cars are empty)

spark is good.

when i take a bottle and fill it with petrol and hung it upside down onto the inlet side of the fuel pump with no filter, it starts and runs beautifully.

when i connect the fuel pump to the inlet line to the filter, it wont run. something is stopping the fuel getting from the tank to the pump. i presume there is nosuch thing as an electric tank pump on a 3k? its just gravity feed isnt it?

when i backed the car up on a hill (using my makeshift fuel tank) so it was pointing down hill and then connected the line from the tank direct to the pump it stopped running after about 2 minutes.

any ideas? i really want the bastard thing to run.

Either the fuel pump diaphragm is poked so its not drawing very well, or the lobe on the cam is worn down so its not actuating it enough to pull from the tank.

where is this intank filter you speak of? how do i get to it and remove it so that there is nothing to stpo my car moving?

is there a way to replace the diaphragm from one known working pump to another? the other pump i know works but the brackets that hold it to the block are bent and broken, but i know the daiphragm in it is good.

im not interly sure where the pickop is but there should be a pannle ontop of the tank where the fule lines go in.. take that off and it will be one the end of the pickup line. the tanks behind the back seat.. you may be abil to get it form the boot otherwise you have to take the rear window tray... or go through speaker holes if you have some.. worst comes to worst you will have to take the tank out

while you have the pickup out take off the pump end of the line and blow through it.. also try it with it disconected at the fule filter.. only just thort of this, how old is your fule filter (the one undwe the bonet) that could be the problem.. altho filters usiuly clog up when you have been running it on empty.. altho filling it right up can stur up some crap in your tank.
