R154 thrust gear washer and pull clutch

Postby trd-drifting » Sun Aug 10, 2008 2:55 pm

Hey i no very little about this but have heard that the r154 thrust gear washers fail quite often.
Is this the case? what causes them to fail? How can you prevent this from happening. Is there heavy duty options out there our ways to stop this.

As i have just brought a r154.

Also does anyone know where i can get a decent pull clutch from for a reasonable price. Tried tradeparts, got a quote of $1200 for mine to be rebuilt by autoclutch for around 3600pnd clamp pressure and 6 puk plate etc.. anywhere else that people recommend or should i import one from the states with a aluminumn flywheel.

Any opinions welcomed.

yeh, its the first gear thrust washer that flogs out. i think they are a cast washer or something and they colapse/crack. have to get a replacement made up of hardened steel. your best bet is to browse some of the aussie forums for some info on the conversion. its an internal thing though, you will need to strip the box down to do it, and if u dont know what your doing and dont have a press and the required tools its gunna get expencive.

as for the clutch, i believe OS Giken do quite a heavy setup and they also supply a push type conversion that goes with it.

im just trying to remember what i got in my cressida, i bought the r154 second hand with a brand new clutch that seems to be holding down 400kw ok, and i do alot of clutch slipping/stabbing/burnouts and havnt had a complaint from it yet.
