LINK boost control

Postby l1ttle_d3vil » Sat Aug 16, 2008 3:45 pm

I need to setup the boost control on my Link G3, using a Link boost control solenoid. Preferably I would like to have a switch so I can alternate between low and high boost. just need someone to confirm the wiring for it so I can get it wired up ready for the tuner setup on the dyno.

so...

12v + to the solenoid
Aux output to the solenoid

then the digital input goes to a switch, with the other side of the switch connecting to an earth. correct?

otherwise, is there any reason a switch can't just be installed inline with the aux output?
when the switch is off, the solenoid won't be energised and will run the factory boost.
when the switch is on, the solenoid will be energised and control the boost at the chosen setting.

cheers

I actually made a rotary switch for mine,
11 different positions for 11 boost settings,

had it working and had a play with it, works ok but was still limited by the fact that I think my wastegate is too small.

But if all you want is two, run the switch inline between the + and the solenoid, or the solenoid and the ecu as you described.

yeah all I need is two settings - factory actuator boost (7psi) and a higher boost (14psi max).

not enough grunt for 11 different boost settings on my old t25

I know of my V5 you could buy a variable resistance switch from DSE for like $3, and effectively ddepending how how far you turned it either the EBC was off - eg actuator boost, or on to your set boost level.

Im sure as the G3 is the more advance unit it can do something the same?

sounds the same as how i've set mine up now.
switch off = actuator boost
switch on = high preset boost

I did it as per the link manual in the end, by using the digital input pin connected to a switch.

ive had it all setup and on the dyno working fine but now i've just started the car up and idled it and the solenoid will click really loudly when I flick the switch to energise it. sounds similar to the injectors, but ALOT louder.

is this normal? until now I've only had it switched on while I'm actually driving the car so its quite likely I just haven't noticed it before.

cheers

Yup, will need to use a bit of rubber under the solenoid mount to quieten it down a bit

ive got it bolted securely to the inner guard.

It will prevent the vibrations from the solenoid transferring directly to the chassis

my brothers starlet was bad for that, he mounted it on a rubber bush and it eliminated the problem, cut up a old jandel or tyre?
