Water Temp Guage, Install..

Postby Bradles » Tue Sep 30, 2008 9:44 am

So i stuck a new autoguage water temp guage on my car in the weekend, put a sender in etc. etc... wired the thing up..

Fire the car up, the guage lights up, but instantly reads 50-51 degrees, and doesnt shift...

so im guessing ive got a short somewhere, for it to give that reading. is there anything obvious in the car that would give that reading? or shall i just pull it apart and wire it again?

providing you used the sender that came with the guage and wired it CORRECTLY ;) it should work fine, just double check your wiring

yeah i used the supplied sender, and i am an electrician.. although not an auto electrician, lol.. so i hope my wiring is correct.. will take it out one night this week and re-check..

i just though that since it reads 50 degrees, as soon as power is turned on, someone might know what ive got it earthed out on.

its just in one of those el cheapo radiator hose adapter thingy's. ( cut the hose, put the adapter in, screw in the sender )

Two wires on the sender,

one should be wired to the sender terminal on the gauge,
and the other to earth not power.

looks like i have to explain myself in full yet again, i ran the wires back to the guage, 1 to signal and 1 to the ground term on the guage then grounded the guage under the dash....

i would grond the sender wire as close to the sender as i could. the senders work on resistance through the ground. the longer the wire the more resistance your getting your not working with 240v here the smalest amount of resistance can screw it up.

So i took it out in the weekend and double checked everything...

Its working fine now, or seems to be..

Just curious as to what the average temperature on a Blacktop 20v would normally be?

Chur.

coolio.. the highest mine reached was about 85 degrees, but that was when hitting 7-8k in each gear etc, so must be reading reasonably accurate.
