Postby sam clarkson » Tue Nov 04, 2008 9:43 am

Caldina 3SGTE 1998.
#3 coil has gone off the boil (poet aren't I!) I'll ask a dumb question, sorry. Where are the coils?

How do you know #3 coil has gone bad if you don't know where they are? Did a mechanic tell you that? They are located under the intercooler which is easy to remove.

Thanks, my partner got it diagnosed by her feindly Toyota dealer, I'm just the mug who has to do the work! I knew it would be a dumb question!
If #3 is wonky does it follow that 12&4 will be likely to fail soon or do they tend to be reliable.

Caldina coils as far as I know don't fail very often, how many k's has yours done? If you are replacing one then take the others out and inspect for cracking/splitting. May as well replace spark plugs while you're at it.

Most of the faulty coils we replace at work are due to the fact that the spark plug gaps are far too wide and overload the coils.

so definatly do spark plugs too unless you know they are not too old.

I did the plugs recently and you are quite correct they were very eroded.
I always love the term 'careful lady owner' on for sale signs, translated means 'lipstick, mascara & texting perfect. Oil changed? Never!'
Us blokes do still have our uses, eh.
