turbo up grade on caldina gtt

Postby Caldina3SGTE » Sat Nov 08, 2008 5:57 pm

hey guys upgrading the turbo on my caldina gtt i got a vf10 sitting in the garage but i'm thinking thats to small, i want something thats not to laggy like full boost at 3-4000rpm then pull to redline without flatting off

has any one played with any of the turbos off trade me like DSR or APET or any other ones just want to know which is best for the price

wanted to get a garrett gt2840R but thats way way out of my budget,

what turbo would you recommend from experiance that will last

thanks in advance

the apet turbos look to be of pretty good quality.

just the other day an evo 7 with just one of those APET GT35 style turbos(new manifold exhaust etc)
layed down ~340WHP.

Last time I looked under the bonnet of a gtt caldina the turbo was pretty big from factory.
I'm sure its way bigger than an (getting old now) vf10

yea they are a good size but i don't like the fact that i have to pull it off every 6-12 months becouse the manifold warps, and kinda want something a bit bigger exhaust side wise as the caldina ones a small spolls quicks but flattens off at like 5g

yea its bigger then a vf10 but i got one sitting in the garage,

go straight for a garret..

Save your dollars , do it right the first time ..

I should have done this with the group A but the 26 highflow was easier and faster to source at the time

It also depends on what power do you want - do you want response , or do you want top end OMFG boostwarpseeds

Yeah its hard to pick a turbo that will be an allrounder, the VF10 wont be any different to the CT15a (or whatever the latest internet term is for the ST215 turbo ).
Basically, any factory turbo wont do what you're after, you need to go aftermarket.

If your wanting response, and not heaps more power i reckon a disco potato would be quite nice (GT2860RS).

Im suprised that you didnt tell him to get a GT3071R Brad . I want a GT3076 on the MR2

I was building up to it  But by the sounds of it, the OP is after something punchy, so a disco potato will suit well.

If you don't have the $$$ to do the job properly, save up until you can. It'll be cheaper doing it right the first time.

BTW what are you planning to do about proper engine management for this killer engine?

i do have the cash for it but don't reali wanna spend it all on my car as the main reason i am doing this is just so i have a good manifold as atm i have to pull it off every 6-12 months to get planed just as a bonus i can have a bit more power,

power wise atm its more then enough i've gotten it dyno and it put out 175kw atw running 15.5psi,

who deals with garrett and can get me a good price on a turbo??

I've always thought something like a vf22 or vf23 would be a good turbo for a caldina

What fivebob said.

It looks like you're not financially ready for a real turbo upgrade. Better hold off a bit.

And what Boosted_162 said, due to the colour of the Nissan it was developed on, phychadellic colours and all that funky stuff.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

Hmm TD05s in my experience are a nicer unit... VF22s are capable technically of making a fair bit of power but 3SGTEs need a lot of boost to do anything decent, and VF22s don't like a lot of boost.

Not worth the hassle, the mounting points are almost identicle to a GT28RS, which in this case, you might as well get a GT28RS

You might say "Yeah but I can score one off my cousin's girlfriend's uncle" or something, but the fab cost to get it to fit is gonna be some megabucks, well maybe not megabucks to some people but by the sounds of things it might be for you.
