Re-Building blue top 4age

Postby DXROLLA » Mon Dec 08, 2008 3:41 pm

Hey im just after some advice on rebuilding my 4age, was looking into getting some high comp wisco pistons has anyone used these before? Would they make much of a difference and will i need to start running aftermarket ecu? Would there be much of a gain over the standard pistons? or mainly just stronger? Also lightning the flywheel how light can i go or should i just try and get a black top flywheel?

And if anyone has a modified blue top what sort of power figures have you got with certain mods?

The motor is going to go in my starlet

If you are going to higher compression you can get extra power out of it but you will require extra modifications to get gains. And that would depend on how much higher the compression ratio would be as to what is required

Heres the dyno plots of my 2 bluetops.

Hopefully I remember it correctly, The faster one has...
reground cams, 264 degrees
1.2mm planed off the head
0.8mm TRD head gasket
replaced standard pistons, rings & bearings
adjustable cam wheels (cos the distance from cam pully to crank has changed, as has the cam profile)
and dyno tune for the cam wheels.

Both engines running standard everything with the following:
pod filter with 3" intake pipe
2.5" exhaust with Coby headers
standard flywheel with a bit lathed off the outside

P.S. If planing the head for higher compression, check that the pistons wont hit the head under load.. things stretch a bit when used.
