4agze Vacuum Tube Puzzle.

Postby shazeal » Mon Dec 15, 2008 6:58 pm

Hey guys,

Im almost done re-assembling my 4agze (the head gasket blew about 9 months ago), problem is I took apart quite a bit of the engine when it first happened. Due to a lack of funds/time its taken this long to get around to sorting it all out... so I am now wishing I had taken some photos before I took stuff apart especially of the vacuum tubes but this one in particular has me stumped...

Image

Ive looked through the BGB and the few photos on the net but for the life of me I have no Idea where it goes. Anyone able to help, or atleast supply a link to the 4agze intake schematics?

Thanks.

Thanks that should help a bit. There is no boost gauge/pull mod on the car, the only thing that has been changed as far as I know is this...

Image

Which I asked about some time ago and someone said it was to do with the S/C lag or something. Im guessing thats why no one knows as this is a modification :(

Hopefully I can get all the other hoses in the right places from that chart, and this thing should just go where it fits. Though that chart looks more like an MR2 layout?

Yeh its from a MR2, ignore the ERG valve as yours won't have this.

The blue VSV is connected to the air bypass valve and the brown VSV is fuel pressure up.

Well I connected it all up, I put the non split end into the Lower throttle body connector (A from the VTV on the chart) then put the split end into the air bypass, and the input for the VSV. But it just does not seem right.

For the life of me I cant see where else it could go, everything seems to match up as is, I guess Ill have another crack at it tomorrow. On a good note, the car started 1st try :)

try this im picking that that little filter is the valve number 23281, the tee piece will be from a boost gauge or what its known as the abv mod. If you compare the two diagrams the valve is called the VTV on the MR2 diagram.
When in doubt, down and out.

Heres what Ive done, honestly I have no idea if its right, it just seems to be the only layout where the tubes reach where they can.

(dark blue)The one from the C.Canister, seems obvious.
(red)Fuel Pressue Reg to inlet manifold, again since the brown VSV is not used I thought this was right.
(green) After that all that was left was the Long tube from the right hand side of the engine bay.
(light blue) And the 3 way with the filter.

Can anyone see if there is something obviously wrong? I did not do the ABV mod you mentioned so Im not sure if Im doing something wrong.

I did some searching since I had NFI what an abv mod was. Now I am slightly more enlightened, it seems whoever did the mod did it completely wrong? It seems like the Brown VSV should still be in use, and the Blue one should be capped off.
No matter how I use the vacum tubes I currently have it would never resemble the one in the link below.

And besides that I have a standard crank pully, so this mod wouldnt actually do anything? Am I better off just going and buying some vacum tubing and returning it to stock to save the headache?

Ive setup all the vacuum tubes according to the manual, but one piece of the puzzle remains.

The Black VSV on the right hand side of the engine bay. It seems to be something to do with the A/C presumably to idle up the engine when the A/C is on. Problem is it has one 0.4mm vacuum tube that comes out that used to be plugged into the blue VSV (which was obviously setup wrong).
So now I have a tube going to nowhere, and with nothing to plug it into.

This is the VSV

Top down view with the small regulator? on top with adjusting screw.

The vacuum output tube runs across to the other side of the engine bay, this could be totally wrong of course.

Does anyone know where this tube from the black VSV is supposed to go?
Or as I have removed most of the air con (minus the A/C motor), would just plugging this vacuum tube off cause a problem?

Ok answered my own question by trawling google, for a very long time. The small vacuum line should run to a T connector and plumb back into the same point as the return line from the blue VSV. Correct me if I am wrong please, but from the tid bits of info I did find that seems to be how it goes.
