Thoughts on brake imbalance

Postby Crimson Tears » Tue Jan 13, 2009 10:02 am

Was wondering if anybody had any experience with rectifying brake imbalance. Basically, if I hit the brakes hard it will pull right and lock the right front wheel. Tyres are a matched set.
I've machined discs, rebuilt the caliper slides, and flushed the brake fluid. There is no grease etc on the rotor or pad surface. The vehicle has also had a wheel alignment.
I didn't replace pads, so my only thoughts to the problem are:
Sticky caliper piston
LH side pad not making full contact on rotor (due to the way it is worn)
Proportioning valve problem

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

generally the proportionary valve is to balance the front vs rear brakes...
check any splitters for leaks etc too.

If the pads aren't worn evenly I would have thought that could affect the performance. If a pad is only half contacting on the disc compared to the otherwise etc.

i had a similar problem and i ended up cycling the pistons in and out 6 or 7 times and it cured the problem.. you just need a block of wood to stop the piston coming out too far...
