brass fuel lines and bonnet pins

Postby l1ttle_d3vil » Wed Jan 14, 2009 9:09 pm

had my car checked over by a mechanic before taking it to VTNZ for a revin, and he's queried a couple of things.

one is he's not 100% sure if you're allowed brass fuel lines anymore. I can't find anything on the LVVTA website regarding fuel lines full stop, so does anyone here know for sure? he seems to think it might've changed recently.

second thing is the car has bonnet pins fitted and he's said it needs a secondary bonnet catch. never heard of this before, is it correct??

cheers

No rules in the VIRM on fuel systems needing cert unless there are structural changes to the vehicle or the fuel type has changed. If its not leaking/damaged/corroded etc then it should be fine.

yeah good point, have just checked the wof manual too. all I can find is:

4. Fuel tanks and fuel lines must be:
a) corrosion-resistant; and
b) designed and constructed of durable,
fuel resistant material; and

which I guess could mean brass is unsuitable because it is not durable enough. just doesn't specify it. guess I'll find out.

anyone know about the bonnet pins?

i'll be using copper nickel fuel and brake lines in the celica, so do a ring around and find out some more info from a VINZ station or similar
