Link ecu question

Postby trd-drifting » Fri Jan 09, 2009 11:59 am

Hey i am new and quite a novice when it come to these ecu's. I have never had a problem in the last year major with my car :) but now i do. It has a lem g3 link in it with a 1JZ-GTE just, wondering how do i run dignostics or pick up any fault codes or can i not now with the link. I no with the pc link when connected up and car is running it has diagnostic tab but that is for only when the car is being tunned right??. Any help would be most appreciated.

no the cars original diagnostics dont work, cus u dont have the factory ecu anymore.

yeh you can connect a laptop up using the USB on the link computer. and if you doanload the program from the net/use the CD you can see every thing the computer is doing. wat u wanna do first, once the program is running and u have the key on and its connected, is save the current tune/map to your computer as a file. this way you can fiddle with the settings etc and if you fuc*k sumthing up, or something goes wrong you can reload the original tune.

Even better than that,

with the new one's, save the file, then go save as and save it again as a different name,

as if you just save it once, when you make some changes and click to save it, you get no option, it just overwrites it and you cant go back to the original program.

and the diagnostics tab you saw on the laptop is not just for tuning, but also for general diagnostics,

although if there is a problem with sensors etc, it usually tells you as soon as you connect the laptop up.

good point =) brilliant computers really (in comparison to factory ECU's) the mind boggles when people modify cars and try to keep the standard ecu.

Thanks for the responce guys but
this way you can fiddle with the settings etc and if you fuc*k sumthing up, or something goes wrong you can reload the original tune.

I dont no enough to fiddle, as knowing just a little bit about the tunning side of things can be dangerous in my opinion as i dont fully understand what im doing. Also the tunners made good power out of it why would i want to adjust there settings, i just want it to run normal again??

What happened was i drove it into garage was running fine, removed fuel pump as the standard struggled to keep up installed a walbro intank pump and a sard FPR(removed standard one). Set fuel pressure to 40psi on idle as that what i was told to set it at.
Now when i plant my foot it coughs and splutters, does not smell like fuel after putting reg in and the psi does not drop much when you put your foot down.
It does not hit boost at all according to the laptop but the boost controller reads like 0.5psi etc..
Now there are no boost leaks ie intercooler pipes off split hoses etc.. thought the turbos cud be stuffed but just pulled off front housing on front turbo and spins freely like it should no and impllor didnt appear to be damaged. (This does not eliminate the back turbo) but i should still get boost as each turbo runs off 3 cylinders right ???
All the spark plugs are clean and coil leads connected properly etc..

The weird thing is you can rev it up to about 4000rpm 4500rpm but when you plant you foot it just coughs and wnt get past 3000rpm.

Here are some pictures when the computer was plugged in.

IS THIS HOW THE DIAGNOSTICS IS SPOSED TO WORK ??? a blank box or what am i missing or is the computer not picking up anu fault codes

At idel

Image

slowly bring up revs

Image

Putting foot down hard

Image

Diagnostics which I dont no how to work or brings up nothing

Image

Image

And a photo off my phone of the turbo.. impeller seems to look ok feels good spins freely but no boost ???

Image

Now what should i do, take it to the tunners and get them to fix it :s be the first time i have had to take my car to someone to fix because i can't or any other ideas or people i can talk to. I Just like to fix things my self with my toy.

Any opinions appreciated
