O2 sensor position.

Postby barryogen » Fri Mar 06, 2009 9:59 am

A mate has a falcon with a custom turbo setup, small turbo for the engine, installed to give near instant response.

During the install, he removed the cat and the oxy sensor, and put the turbo there(I don't know why, he just did).

The O2 sensor is not currently plugged in, but where should it be, pre or post turbo?

oxy sensor should go on the exducer side of the turbo so outlet for exhaust, preferable close as possible to the flange, if its just a tube/pipe outlet and not a cast type then you should be able to mount the oxy sensor quite close to the outlet. dont thing ive ever seen one on the turbo exhaust inlet side but could be some out there.

never mind... it just occured to me that the exhaust running out the screamer would be the same as the exhaust running through the turbo, hence should have the same O2 content...

Continuing this thought... it shouldn't matter pre or post turbo, as the content wont magically change by going through the turbo.

It is probably put after it due to packaging/heat, and in this guys case, won't matter packaging wise, so I'll suggest after anyway.

Pre-turbo will be too hot and could cause the sensor to malfunction/fail.
