4age turbo oil feeds

Postby l1ttle_d3vil » Sat Mar 14, 2009 11:11 pm

im wanting to make sure my oil lines are setup sufficiently before I put a nice new turbo on - just incase its what killed the last one. obviously too little oil is bad, too much will stuff the seals. its a t25g journal bearing setup.
do journal bearings need restrictors? i've done alot of reading, and found just as many different answers

how do you know if you got too much or too little oil? the oil feed inlet on the turbo core is 4mm. my oil lines are around 4.5mm - 5mm, tee'd off the oil pressure fitting. has approx 80psi when cold at idle, once fully warmed up it'll drop to around 20psi at idle, and peak at around 70psi when giving it sh*t. drain line is whatever the factory size for the t25g is, and enters the sump at the very top.

does this sound about right for a t25g? should I fit a restrictor, or could the lines be bigger? (probably no point though, if the core only has 4mm inlet right?)

any input is appreciated.

cheers
-matt

is yours journal or ball bearing though?
and even if I can work out how much will flow out, I don't know how much is too much for the turbo

interesting, i thought journal bearings didn't need restrictors.
but then i've also read if the turbo see's over 30psi oil pressure, the seals will likely give out. does that sound about right, should I fit a restrictor and aim for 30psi max at the turbo?

unless its a ball bearing turbo i dont worry about fitting restrictors etc,

on my rx7 i will be using 3/16 hose and 9/16 jic fittings,
on my last few 4age turbo setups ive used upto 1/4" hose and 9/16 jic fittings with out any trouble

any idea why it failed?

in that case, should my lines be bigger? or will 4.5mm still provide sufficient oil flow?

i just assumed it was because of no restrictor
