Redline Heavy ShockProof Gear Oil + W55

Postby varix » Mon Apr 06, 2009 4:08 pm

I currently have a W55 in my Mark II and its basically giving me some very small crunches, mainly between 1st and 2nd gear. It only happens changing up not down, and its not loud enough to hear, mainly just feel it through the shifter.

I have come across enough Redline Heavy ShockProof Gear Oil to change the oil in my gear box. Does anyone have any idea whether this will perhaps cure the problem? Is this common on W55s? From my previous knowledge of the car this gearbox shouldn't have been "raped" as such.

I use Redline MT90 in my MR2 and the 3rd Gear Crunch has gone.

I also had good results using Valvoline Duragear + ProMa MBL8 oil additive.

Redline MT90 about $100 for 4L
Duragear $50 for 4L and $35 for MBL8 Additive

MBL8 is 250ml and is enough to do a gearbox and a couple of 4 cylinder oil changes as well. Its great stuff. See your local ProMa distributor.

The heavy duty shock proof is very good for fixing gear boxes with issues.
Also the blue shock proof is very good also.

If your running some high HP then use the heavy duty (red)
If not then use the blue.
