Ae85/6 front adjustables, cert

Postby rx7guy » Sun May 03, 2009 2:58 pm

Hi I've got an ae85 with d2 adjustables. At a low ride height the front springs are not captive. I will be going for a cert once I've got a bunch of other things fixed.

Do the springs need to be captive for all possible ride heights?

What would be the better option to make them captive? Keeper spring or shorten the strut?

Thanks, Aidan

no i dont think they have to be captive at all heights when you get ur cert plate it will state the height of you car and you get a 5% tolerance i think so set it 2 the height you want 1st as i dont think your aloud to change it.keeper springs rock i definitely recommend them.

And they seem to be bloody expensive for what they are too. But as said, you'll have a set ride height that it should be set at so if they're captive at that then you should be fine

Ok sweet. I'll have to find some keepers then.

Cheers

best option is to hiff the shocks that caome with the kit on trade me and get some adjustable konis that are actually the proper length.stroke as the D2 shocks are standard length so when slammed the shocks are bottomed out.

i had to raise my old z10 soarer with ae86 K sports (same as D2) by like 25mm when went for cert cuz the shocks were bottomed out

helper springs are a mad price!
if possible design the suspension so you dont need them! to save some coin

You know these are your old shocks aye d1mule. I'm spending heaps on it already, im running out of cash so dont think ill be getting konis, maybe later.

Why not just get the shocks shortened if they are too long? Is it a bit rangi or what?

if they have been run bottomed out they maybe stuffed anyway

i doubt you could shorten them, isnt the adjustment done from the top?
you would have to get new inserts

They still seem to be firm, I might take them out and see how far they go before bottoming out.
