faulty boost control solenoid??

Postby l1ttle_d3vil » Fri May 22, 2009 7:18 pm

had a couple of issues with the corolla over the weekend. running 4age turbo, factory 7psi wastegate, link g3 and a link boost control solenoid. it is setup on a switch in the cabin, to run either 7psi or 12psi. low boost (7psi) works fine, high boost would work fine, would hit about 15psi before coming down.

now on high boost it started mis-firing at higher revs, looked at the boost gauge and noticed it was at 20psi
all the lines are hooked up and good condition, no leaks i can find, low boost still works fine.

with the solenoid de-energised, I can only blow through the wastegate line and out the compressor line. nothing will come out the air filter line.
when it is energised, i can blow through the wastegate line and it will come out either of the other lines.

is this correct?? should it only be able to come out the air filter line when energised or does it still get the boost pressure reading from the compressor line?

or is there anything else I should check??
and secondly, am I likely to have done any damage to the engine from the over-boost??

cheers
-matt

There should be a common port, a normally closed port and a normally open port.
Common goes to the wastegate actuator
Normally open goes to the compressor cover and normally closed vents to atmosphere or air filter.

This way with no power youll have standard boost. When the solenoid is energised it cuts air to the wastegate actuator and the air in the actuator is bled out the normally closed port which is now open
