Is there a 4 pot upgrade for st215w Caldina?

Postby drftdr » Mon Jun 08, 2009 6:18 pm

Is there a decent calliper upgrade for the Caldina wagon?
Brought a st215w wagon for the mrs, and going from a s15 spec s to the wagon, the brakes suck in comparison.
My knowledge base is mainly in the nissan family, so if anyone knows of
a decent upgrade please do enlighten me

Nope only a big 2 pot calliper.
Any one with a really nice setup on there wagon?
Read mintex 1166 pads, what about rotors?
The brakes just suck in comparison to other cars driven

You have to be realistic, a 1400kg+ 4WD wagon is not going to have the brake performance of a Silvia. Braided lines, good pads and decent tires do a good enough job

Yeah ive been reading thru the web on the st205 brake upgrade
Anyone have any recommendations on where to get some from?
Also said to use a 305mm brake disc
The more info i can gather the better
Only other wagons i have driven have been 260rs wagons.
My work wagon is a 2007 wingroad, and that has a much nicer pedal feel.
Car has 18 inch work wheels, not much heavier then the factory 15's
and 235 toyo equivilant tyres.
Grips really well and goes well, just not impressed with the brakes
And being the mrs's car, gotta be nice and safe.

i am running machined down st205 rotors to keep everything lining up, subaru rotors have a different hat height which means you have to $&#$% around with spacing after i got the discs to the right size you are correct 305mm i just put a thread into my factory hubs and your pretty much done i havn't looked at the brake hoses yet but its no biggy to get some new ones made up that are slightly longer. there is a set of gt four four pots and 2 pot rears on trademe at the moment i would reccomed buying some brakes with rotors if you can because they are not cheap at all i spent a few days at work ringing some suppliers and your looking at over well 100+gst per disc cant remember the exact figure but it was not cheap!

Hmmm - almost sounds like you are dealing with different pedal feel from what you are used to rather than poor braking performance.

Best feel brake pedal I have driven was NZ new 1995 camry wagon... rock solid pedal that hardly moved when you applied brakes.

Crappiest feel brakes is in my Carina racecar! Quite a long pedal movement, but boy does it stop hard!

Different makes and models have different feels to the brakes...

If you do for ST205 4 pots you will probably find you will get a much longer pedal due to the extra piston area.

Ken
I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

Heh, funny you say that Ken, as something I've found out...

"Late model Camry 2 bolt brake master cylinder (p/n 47201-06190) bolts directly to TA22/AE86/TE72/AE71 booster for those running bigger brakes & needing to get rid of the spongy pedal ST205 celica fits also, but lines are slightly different."

I think the camry had the largest bore in the MC out of all the things that would fit the 2 bolt brake booster.

I know from doing a 4 pot conversion on my laurel when had it the pedal feel never changed. Didnt change the master cyclinder either.
Its pedal feel and poor braking. I know a pad change and disc change would help, but i do love having good brakes.
