AE111 Rear Brakes

Postby Subway » Thu Jul 23, 2009 12:34 am

I did a search, couldnt really find anything that helped.
The rear left brake on my ae111 levin bzg (disc brakes) is noisy under braking, is there a Haynes etc guide that shows how to disassemble the brake assembly on an ae111 or a guide that shows how? I like to learn how to repair and maintain my own car so taking it to a shop is pointless, want to do it myself. Im guessing its a worn brake pad due to the sound of the squeal, but I need to check before I buy another set. Also, should I replace the right hand set at the same time? or does it not matter....

Have you done much mechanical work before? Brakes are pretty important and one of the last things you want to play with if you haven't done it before. Got any mates that know a thing or 2 about cars? If you do i'd get them to give you a hand. I'm not going to write a step by step of how to do it as i'd be here all night.

But in my opinion, the easiest way is to get someone to show you. Its not a hard thing to do, but its something you have to do right the first time :)

Pretty sure all brake pads come in sets of 4. 2 pads each side. So front and rear sets. So you replace both sides to keep it all even. Its not always that simple though as discs might be scored / might be too thin to be skimmed / will need to bleed the brakes etc. If you take off your wheels you might be able to visually check how thick the pad is and compare it to the other wheels. Thats what i'd do to start with to determine how much pad is left.

I'm sure if you offer up a box of beer or 2 someone local to you will lend you a hand and show you how to do it. Cheaper than taking it to a workshop and you learn how to do it.
