what does this thing do?

ive just put a silvertop into my ae92. on the firewall of the ae101 there is a little black box with two pipes and a plug running to it. one pipe runs to the intake just after the airflow meter and the other runs down toward the intake manifold. what is this thig and what does it do? do i need it?

any help would be great.

Sounds like the Vacuum Switching Valve (VSV) for the evap system.

I've got a Silvertop in an AE82, my VSV is plumbed in but there is no electrical connector on it so its effectively disconnected I guess. Having said that my silvertop doesnt have a charcoal canister either. I know one of the VSV lines is plumbed to the intake between the AFM and the TB but can't remember where the other line goes, I think just to a line on the manifold. Let me know if you want me to check further.

Its the idle up VSV, you should swap it across to the AE92 as it helps with cold start etc

If it is located on left side on the firewall, it is AC idle up solenoid.

makes a mint winter idle up if you wax idle up goes just block it up and wire this up to a switch ^__^
