OEM shocks aren't really designed for track use.

a good alternative is adjustable koni inserts. i can recommend these as just as good as going to a full-certed adjustable setup, minus the height adjustment which isn't really an issue unless you want to lower it for looks.

they go for about $200-250 a corner and invest in a decent set of tein springs and you have a mint setup without having to go through cert.

they are real easy to install, just cut the top off your existing strut and insert the shock and they fit in just like a OEM shock so no trouble finding them to fit superstrut etc.

just a thought. =)

so with these koni's what's involved in putting them in? is there any welding?

I'm sorry for all the stupid questions, but I really have NO experience in superstrut, ideally I'd like something that me and the boys can put in ourselves to save $ on professional install. Is this idea of koni's one we can do ourselves with basic tools?

nah no welding involved just cut the top 40-50mm off top of strut and drill a hole in the bottom and put the insert inside the strut. its held in by a bolt and then you're good to go.

did mine at home only takes bout half an hour to put each one in once you have them out of the car.

all you need is tools to get struts out, hacksaw/grinder, and i think a 13mm drillbit. the instructions provided explain it quite well

not sure where bouts you can get them from in auckland but i got mine from autolign in palmy although they aren't the agents. but the place they got them from is in auckland somewhere.

try any suspension places or ask around on here. it is best to get them from the suplier you normally get a better price and better support for the product

wow would never have taken that for a auto parts place.

anyways, just gave them a call, this is what they have:

King Springs only

KYB front legs - $680.30 each
KYB rear - $246.58

Now compare that with $184 (less coz i have teh connectionz) each for front oem and a lot less for rear ... I think going with OEM shocks and new tein S-Techs is the way to go.

At the end of the day the difference in handling won't be astronomical (even though the KYBs would obviously be better), and I don't need a track machine, just something that looks good and sticks to the road
